Hide & Block
Two ways to control who you see and who sees you on 12sell — Hide for "I don't want this in my feed", Block for "I don't want this person on my account at all".
12sell has two complementary controls for managing what you see and who interacts with you:
| Control | What it does | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|
| Hide | Removes a single deal/showcase (or all of one user's content) from your feed. The other side doesn't know. | Yes — unhide anytime |
| Block | Cuts off all interaction with a specific user. They can't message you, see your profile, or appear in your search. They become invisible. | Yes — unblock anytime |
Both are private to you — other 12sell users can't see who you've hidden or blocked.
Hide a deal or showcase ("Not interested")
When you see a deal or showcase you don't want in your feed:
- Tap the ⋯ (more) menu on the post.
- Tap Not interested.
The post disappears from your feeds and teaches your feed: 12sell records it as a negative interest signal and shows you fewer posts in that category and brand going forward. ("Not interested" is the same control older versions of the app called Hide.)
This works for:
You can also hide an entire user's content from your view by hiding several of their posts in a row, or by following the Hide all from this user option on their profile.
Tuning your feed directly
Hiding is the negative half of a two-way personalization system. You can also tune the positive half — the categories, subcategories, brands, country, and condition your feed favors — from Settings → My Interests. There you see what 12sell thinks you like, add interests, or remove ones that no longer fit. Every like, message, search, and "Not interested" tap also feeds this profile automatically. See Profile Setup for how the initial profile is built.
Block a user
When you want a user gone from your account entirely:
- Open their profile (or the ⋯ menu on any of their content / messages).
- Tap Block User.
- Confirm.
Once blocked, the other user:
- Can't message you. The send button on their side fails silently.
- Can't see your profile, your deals, showcases, or tales.
- Doesn't appear in your search results ever.
- Can't react to your messages — old reactions stay; new ones don't go through.
- Existing chat history stays in your inbox (you can delete the chat if you want).
You also become invisible to them — they can't tell whether you blocked them or simply deleted your account. There's no notification.
Unblock a user
Open Settings → Privacy Settings → Blocked Users to see your list of blocked users. Tap Unblock next to any name to restore normal interaction.
After unblocking:
- Both sides can message again.
- Their content reappears in your feeds and search.
- You become visible to them again on your profile, deals, showcases, and tales.
There's no notification when you unblock — it's silent.
When to use which
| Situation | Use |
|---|---|
| You don't want a particular brand of post cluttering your feed | Hide the post |
| One user keeps posting things irrelevant to you | Hide several of their posts; the algorithm catches on |
| Someone is messaging you in a way you don't like | Block them |
| You want the freedom to come back to a person later | Hide, not block |
| Someone is breaking 12sell's rules (spam, scams, harassment) | Report them, then Block for safety |
Privacy of these controls
Both Hide and Block are completely private to you:
- Other users can't see your hide list or your block list.
- 12sell doesn't notify the other side.
- Removing a hide or unblock is silent too.
This matters for B2B context where you may not want to burn bridges — silently hiding a customer's noisy posts is much safer than confrontation.
Hiding doesn't delete
Hide and Block are your view controls. They don't:
- Delete the post from 12sell.
- Remove the post for other users.
- Take any moderation action against the poster.
If a post breaks the rules, use Reporting — that's the moderation channel.
Common questions
What's the difference between Hide and Mute?
Hide removes content from your feed. Mute (used for conversations and private lists) silences notifications but the content/chat is still there. Hide is for content; Mute is for notifications.
Can I see how many users have blocked me?
No. Block is one-way and private. There's no count, no list, no notification.
If I block someone, will they know?
No. From their side, your profile may simply not exist. They can't tell whether they're blocked or you've left the platform.
What happens to existing messages with a blocked user?
The chat thread stays in your inbox with the existing history. New messages from them won't arrive (they fail silently on their side). You can delete the chat if you want.
Can I block someone's whole company?
No — block works at the individual user level. If multiple members of the same Company are bothering you, block each one. Or use Hide on their content.
Will hiding a deal hide all other deals from the same user?
Hiding one deal hides that one deal. To hide all content from a specific user, use the Hide all option on their profile, or block them.
Can I export my block list?
Not currently. The list is visible in Settings → Privacy Settings → Blocked Users.
Does unblocking restore old messages they sent while blocked?
Messages they tried to send while you had them blocked never arrived — there's nothing to restore. Future messages will work normally.
